"A tree is our most
intimate contact
with nature."
George Nakashima
Trees that have lasted hundreds of years in a human environment evoke deep personal connections. We relate to their rough or smooth skins, their shape, their color, their size. We tell stories about individual trees and sometimes give them names. Old trees have a rich and layered history of survival in the face of mishap, injury, infection, and storms-of-our-lifetime. We revere them for that.
We make beautiful and useful things from trees.
